Luo Qian-Ren discussed the three essential elements that Tao cultivators should achieve
in order to successfully open up wasteland abroad. They are “unity of Heaven and Man,
one heart between divinities and men, and unity of the will and combined efforts” among all
Tao cultivators. Unless these three factors are all available, Tao affairs will not bear fruit
in the future.
Since the objective of cultivating and propagating Tao is to ferry both oneself and others,
Luo Qian-Ren emphasized the importance of not using, deceiving or slighting Tao kin in order
not to hinder the development of Tao affairs as a whole. He also suggested that the three criteria
contained in the Confucian text of the Doctrine of the Mean, i.e. “every move the superior man
makes becomes the way of the world, every action he takes becomes the model of the world,
and every word the utters becomes the pattern of the world”; be used to testify to the efficacy
of the speech and action of a truthful Tao cultivator. Those who are able to recognize the cause
of the transmigration and understand that the Original Nature alone is the Substance that
transcends rounds of birth and ends cycles of death, can certainly propagate Tao for long,
make Tao widespread in foreign lands, fulfil their vows, ensure that Tao affairs prosper and thrive,
and help Tao kin complete Tao to attain enlightenment.
